Dr. Balaguer is a board-certified hand and upper extremity surgeon specializing in conditions of the hand, wrist, and elbow as well as microvascular surgery and nerve repairs. He graduated from The Ohio State University with an undergraduate degree in biological sciences. He attended medical school in his native Puerto Rico. Upon graduation, Dr. Balaguer obtained an NIH grant and spent 2 years at the Orthopedic Research Laboratory of Columbia University Department of Orthopedic Surgery. He completed his formal training at The University of Miami with a hand and upper extremity surgery fellowship at Jackson Memorial Hospital / University of Miami Department of Orthopedic Surgery. Dr. Balaguer is an avid athlete and has been part of the medical team of different sports teams at the high school, college and professional level. Dr. Balaguer is a two-time cancer survivor and is very passionate about his charity work with cancer patients. He is involved in many charities including the Leukemia Lymphoma Society.
