Specialty Overview

The DOC is proud to introduce the Regenerative Institute in Doral, Florida, serving greater Miami. Regenerative Medicine is the field of medicine including PRP and stem cell therapy, or the process of creating tissues to repair function which was lost due to damage, age, disease, or congenital defects.

PRP (platelet-rich plasma) therapy is the signature regenerative treatment offered by the clinicians at the Renerative Institute.  An injection into the joint, similar in complexity to a steroid injection when performed by an orthopedic trained clinician, PRP treatments have shown to be effective for many orthopedic conditions, including acute or chronic ligament and tendon sprains and strains.  PRP uses the patient’s own blood for therapy, promoting a natural healing process.

Stem cells in your body have the ability to divide and turn into other types of desirable cells.  Stem cells from you are called mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) and can regenerate connective tissues.  Stem cell treatments have been shown to be effective in dealing with the inflammatory component of degenerative arthritis.

Orthobiologic treatments can be administered in hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, or private offices, depending on (1) the facility’s ability to maintain the correct environment and (2) the skills of the clinicians.

The most commonly treated conditions include cartilage and meniscus disorders.

Numerous studies have evaluated the use of PRP in the assisting with ACL reconstruction, plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis, degenerative spine disease, rotator cuff repair, elbow tendonitis (tennis elbow), and knee osteoarthritis.

A recent study published in the Orthopaedic Journal of Sports Medicine showed that 75% of patients receiving PRP treatments were 35 years or older.
